After the long weekend here in Canada, we’re feeling the effects of all that summer BBQ, a few too many cocktails, and not enough zzz’s. Here are three of our fave ways to detox by resting our organs, stimulating the liver to drive toxins out of the body, and increasing blood circulation.

1. Dry Brushing
We finally took the plunge and drank the Kool-Aid, and we’re not looking back. Dry brushing helps exfoliate, increase circulation, and smooth the appearance of cellulite too (bonus!). The biggest benefit of dry brushing is stimulating the lymphatic system. Margo Marrone, founder of The Organic Pharmacy, explains, “the lymphatic system is responsible for collecting, transporting to the blood, and eliminating the waste our cells produce. If the lymphatic system is congested, it can lead to a build-up of toxins, causing inflammation and illness. Dry brushing stimulates the lymphatic system as it stimulates and invigorates the skin.”

Ready to try it yourself? Start at your feet and brush upwards. Move up to your abdomen and brush in circular strokes in a counter clockwise pattern. Finally, brush from your hands to your shoulders. After brushing for at least three minutes, jump in the shower and follow with a body oil (our facial cleansing oil works too!) or lotion.
2. Juice Cleanse
Juice cleanses are amazing when you feel things are working a bit slower in your system. By resting your stomach, you can rest and repair your gut and liver. Happy gut and liver = happy digestive system! We personally find that cleanses help raise our energy level and curb cravings.

A great way to detox your body is by getting a sweat in, whether it be through an intense workout, hot yoga, or even just lying in a sauna. Do whatever works for you, and follow up your sweat sesh with a thorough cleanse to prevent the nasties from staying on your skin!
