What Are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are highly concentrated liquids extracted from plants and trees, such as flowers, fruit, and bark. Essential oils are extracted by distillation (steam and water) or expression (otherwise known as cold pressing, used commonly for citrus peel oils). Although these oils are all-natural, they are actually exceptionally potent. Charlynn Avery, aromatherapist and educator at Aura Cacia, says that essential oils are “up to 75 times more powerful than dried herbs. As such, essential oils must be handled with care.” Always test essential oils on a small patch of skin before applying on your face.

What Are The Benefits of Essential Oils?
1. Clear Skin
Many plants have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic properties, meaning they are excellent at targeting acne. Tea tree oil, which can be applied directly to skin, is one of the Holy Grail essential oils due to its ability to shrink zits and reduce redness in only a few hours. Try adding it to your daily cleanser, or add a few drops to a cotton round and apply topically to your trouble spots. Lavender oil is also great for soothing sunburns and fading acne scars, and can also be applied straight from the bottle to your skin.
